Pjesma sela Rude - The song of the village Ruda

Riccardo Jurkovic - 30'01"
(Germany, Croatia)

Synopsis

"Pjesma sela Rude - The Song of the village Ruda" tells the story of a small village in the Dalmatian hinterland of Croatia. The documentary is based on the personal history of Dujo Jurkovic who returned to his home village after spending 40 years in Germany. It was always his dream to retire in his home country but the village he spent his childhood has changed. Both socialism in Yugoslavia and younger events have marked the people in Ruda. The civil war has left deep scars and changed the appearance of the village - life is not the same anymore. The homecomer has to adapt to this new situation and his transforming home country. Meeting old companions revives the past and while serious issues are discussed, also funny and personal moments occur. All the characters in the documentary paint a picture of the mentality and reality of Croatia. This reality oscillates between disillusionment about the current situation and hope for a European future.
